Sustainability and impurities matters more than ever

Sustainability and impurities. Over 1000 industry leaders and experts were gathered last week at the #2023ACI Annual Convention, where impurities and sustainability were recurring topics. Both areas are close to our hearts when it comes to pharma-grade Benzalkonium Chloride for use in topical antiseptics.

We all know sustainability is important, but how do we integrate it into our product and process designs?

Concepts like Material Circularity Indicator (MCI) and Circular Economy were addressed during the event, and design-driven circular principles were presented as inspiration. A lot can be achieved by looking at the supply chain and setting goals for suppliers, such as renewable energy or recyclable packaging materials.

Another key discussion was about impurities. Consumer and patient safety is top of the list for many regulatory bodies, and product and ingredient safety, including non-potent components (impurities) e.g. VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds), must be documented with sound data, and manufacturers need to communicate this data using “social science.”

From Novo Nordisk Pharmatech Pari-Naz Javaheri, Mike J. Vincent, MBA, and Chantale Julien were delegates at the event:

“We enjoyed the inspirational presentations and panels and the opportunity to connect with the ACI staff and members. Even if we didn´t win the annual duck race!”
