Cetrimide products
Cetrimide products
Our portfolio includes crystalline FeF Cetrimide Ph.Eur. containing approximately 99% active ingredient and two variations of FeF Strong Cetrimide Solution 40% BP Pharma, one with ethanol and one with isopropyl alcohol.
Cetrimide applications
Antiseptics and disinfectants
Hospital quality antiseptic solutions are used for both hand and instrument disinfection, often containing Quats (quaternary ammonium compounds) at concentrations between 0.5% and 3%. More concentrated solutions, for further dilution, are also available, with Quats between 5% and 15%. Our Cetrimide, Strong Cetrimide, and Benzalkonium Chloride products are widely used in antiseptic solutions, with Cetrimide often combined with chlorhexidine.
Topical formulations (ryk op som det første emne under applications)
For formulations applied directly to skin or damaged epithelial tissue, only the purest and safest ingredients can be used. That is why our Cetrimide is found in antiseptic creams used in the treatment of acne, eczema, nappy rash, and psoriasis, as well as other dermatoses. Concentrations of active ingredient in these products vary from 0.1 to 1%.
Dental treatments
Cetrimide has a positive effect in dental treatments. Studies show that after just 14 days of treatment with 1% Cetrimide, there is a reduction in the viability of an Enterococcus faecalis infection in human dentine, a significant improvement over comparative treatments.
Quality
All Novo Nordisk Pharmatech Quats, including Cetrimide, have proven efficacy against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, acting on gram-positive, gram-negative, acid-fast bacteria, yeast, moulds and enveloped viruses. Our products are highly effective through a wide pH range and as surface active/adhesive cationic agents, they don’t add unpleasant odours or colours to finished formulations.
Further, our efficient quality management systems, dedicated equipment, and rigorous laboratory control, ensure our products are always of consistent and uniform high quality.
Are Cetrimide and CTAB (Cetrimonium Bromide) different?
Chemically similar, our Cetrimide is manufactured using an amine with 14 carbons (C14) and CTAB is made using an amine with 16 carbons (C16). Both have the same properties, though CTAB is less adsorbent and slightly less soluble than Cetrimide. Additionally, Cetrimide is more commonly used in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and Africa, with CTAB more common in North America. In pharmacopoeias, Cetrimide is described in BP and PhEur, but not in USP/NF, whereas CTAB is only described in the USP/NF.
Diagnostic testing
Novo Nordisk Pharmatech Quats have proved to be notably superior in diagnostic reagents compared with less pure compounds. For example, our crystalline Cetrimide and CTAB products are used in heparin purification and can be utilised in special reagents, such as blood cell counting for Baker Analyzed Reagents.
