Antiseptic agents
Concentrations of Quats in antiseptic liquids (solutions) can vary greatly, typically from less than 0.1% up to 15%.
Solutions for direct topical application will normally contain between 0.1 and 0.5% active Quat. This concentration will provide both a preservative effect for the solution and also an antiseptic effect on the skin. Our Benzalkonium Chloride is widely used in these formulations.
Some hospital solutions are used for both instrument and hand disinfection. Since they must be further diluted, concentrations of Quats in these products are normally high, between 5 and 15%. Our Cetrimide (Strong Cetrimide) and Benzalkonium Chloride are widely used in such formulations, where Cetrimide is often combined with chlorhexidine.
